Acoustic and Intelligent Resonator (AIR)
The grand piano sounds you hear from the digital piano are all attributed to Casio’s proprietary sound source, AIR (Acoustic and Intelligent Resonator). After meticulously recording the sound of a 9-foot concert grand at four levels, the sound is delivered by AIR with seamless dynamics to provide for an expressive and powerful performance while playing the piano.
To add to the effects, AIR also simulates Damper Resonance to create an uncanny realism whenever the damper pedal is used. The 88-keyboard is a fully weighted scaled hammer-action one which comes with a USB MIDI.
Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action II Keyboard
The specialty of the PX-160 is that it uses Casio’s famous Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action II Keyboard comprising of a simulated Ebony and Ivory textured keys which give a terrific feel while playing. Its three sensors work hard at capturing the dynamics of performance with great speed and accuracy.
This is because Casio’s trademark Hammer Response feature works by the speed of the movement of different sized hammers inside an acoustic grand piano relatively to the velocity of the played keys. It is this ultimate timing nuance which creates the penultimate key-to-sound experience unparallel to the sound produced by any other brand.
Epic sound system
This digital piano comes with a redesigned chassis which not only gives the instrument a more elegant look but is also big enough to accommodate a new 8w x 8w speaker system. It is this speaker system which is responsible for delivering the PX-160’s remarkable sounds with its deserved richness.
Not only does this epic sound system open to the front, but it also ports to the back. This is how and why the PX-160 produces such a remarkable sound when placed against a wall. Moreover, it is this feature which makes this piano useful in a classroom, or any place where the sound produced has to be projected to the audience. And the feature which makes this digital piano stands out from the other brands which have their speaker systems mostly aimed downwards.
The PX-160 has some newly developed stereo strings sounds added to its ensemble. These sounds are wonderful to listen to on its own, or when layered with the piano’s harpsichord, electric pianos, grand pianos and other sounds. In addition to these string sounds, the electric piano has also been updated with some dynamic sounds derived from Casio’s PX-55 stage piano.
With its split and layer capabilities, the PX-160 now lets you play bass with your left hand with two layered tones in your right. Its duet mode feature splits the keyboard into two equal ranges, making it perfect for a teacher and student to simultaneously use the piano. If required, all practice and performance sessions can also be recorded by the piano’s two track reorder.
Keeping in mind Casio’s class compliant’ tradition on Privia digital phones, the PX-160 also provides USB connectivity. This means that the keyboard can be easily used with Windows or Mac computers without any need of downloading any drivers to do so. In fact, the Class Compliant USB MIDI feature of the digital piano also lets it be used as a controller with the Apple iPad just by using the Apple’s Camera Connection kit.
In addition to its USB connectivity, the PX-160 also provides for quiet individual listening. It has two headphone outputs located on the front of the digital piano to connect your headphone to and listen to your recordings and songs. In case you want some amplification, there are ¼ inch left and right line outputs located on the rear panel.
